Today teen abstinence education is usually based on the fear of pregnancy. Pregnancy is the most obvious consequence of teen sexual activity, so it’s tempting to use it as the “hook” to discourage that sexual activity. The problem with this approach is that it’s not pro-chastity so much as it is anti-baby. If there is no baby there’s no problem. These days there are plenty of ways of avoiding the baby while still indulging in the sexual activity. We don’t want to encourage teen chastity simply because we don’t want teenage girls to get pregnant. Rather we want to encourage teen chastity because God created human sexual expression to speak a very powerful profound language, the language of permanent self-donation between a husband and a wife. We encourage teenage chastity because chastity is beautiful and positive, because it helps teens to live real, honest love. Love is what they’re looking for. Our kids need to fall in love with the idea of chastity and the beauty of God’s plan for human sexuality. They need to be so motivated by positive reverence and love that violating it would be unthinkable to them. (Mary Beth Bonacci, Arlington Catholic Herald, September 21, 2006)
There is an obvious need, then, to end the sexual chaos of our times and develop a strong family life by promoting the practice of chastity among our youth. This will drastically reduce the millions of sexually transmitted diseases (STD's) and abortions that occur in America each year. Practicing the virtue of chastity before and during marriage is the key to eliminating abortion, poverty, and STD's. This will bring about a Culture of Life where our youth will be taught to practice the virtues of self-control, generosity, idealism and altruism, resulting in long, satisfying marriages, individual responsibility, respect for all life, religious vocations, security for women and families and strong social structures.
There is also a constant need to confront the verbal engineering on our youth and our society by the false “war on women and reproductive rights.” Natural law is being ignored. Man’s laws are being used in place of God’s laws. Legalized child killing and sodomy, have over ruled God’s laws, which are an abomination to Him. Sex and Drugs have caused our youth to focus on their libido which keeps them distracted and causes them to make immoral, mindless, destructive decisions. Pornography is ramped. The largest international porn site on the internet gets 4 billion hits per month and 350 million first time users every month. 30% of all international internet traffic is pornography. Pornography is an ocean drowning our youth by the 10s of millions threatening the destruction of the entire institution of the family.
Very fitting for these times is the following quote from St. Pope John Paul II’s 1976 address to The Eucharistic Congress:
“We are now standing in the face of the greatest historical confrontation humanity has ever experienced. I do not think that the wide circle of the American Society, or the whole wide circle of the Christian Community realize this fully. We are now facing the final confrontation between the Church and the anti-church, between the gospel and the anti-gospel, between Christ and the antichrist. The confrontation lies within the plans of Divine Providence. It is, therefore, in God’s Plan, and it must be a trial which the Church must take up, and face courageously…”
